I'll leave the suspense until Laura's article comes out, but I did not gain which was my fear. One month to go and I will be hard pressed to hit the 33lb loss goal by then, but as long as I keep trending in the right direxcion, I will be happy.

Felt like I lost an old friend this week when Andy Griffith died. I have every episode on DVD and can recite the majority of the first five seasons line and verse. I have several Andy Griffith Show (ASG) trivia games and Mayberryopoly. Yes, a true Mayberry geek. I have attended the Mayberry festival in Mt. Airy, NC and receive newsletters from The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club. Did I mention I'm a AGS geek? There are not many cast members still alive. I hope to get back to the festival soon while some of the cast is still there. I met Maggie Peterson Mancuso (Charlene Darling) and Richard O. Linke, the Executive Producer at the last festival. George Lindsay (Goober) was there but I didn't meet him directly. We connected on Facebook a year and half ago and have never even spoken on the phone. We have corresponded via Facebook, but not frequently. We have a game at 1PM tomorrow so that’s where I will be. Gina is visiting Carolyn down in New Orleans so it’s Brittany and I tomorrow. Hope to get a catch in with her before the game. Had Chipotle for lunch. Everyone says it is not good for you. I don’t do the cheese or sour cream and that really keeps the calories reasonable. I always do a bowl versus a burrito. I always thought that tortilla wraps instead of bread was the way to go. Maybe not. The burrito wrap they use at Chipotle is a little under 300 calories! Stunning to me. You just never know until you start investigating. Looks like my weight is about the same with little effort. Been a rough go with a lot of work but I have strayed away from good eating very few times. Very guilty when I do, so I think the new eating lifestyle has truly kicked in.

Lighten Up Blogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04740724090759901848noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-832182021440332939.post-89964757635093787732012-06-11T09:36:00.001-07:002012-06-11T09:36:38.134-07:00Update

Got to take my first walk in quite some time yesterday. My daughter Brittany and I logged a nice 4 mile jaunt. Got the car washed and some yard work done. Felt pretty good getting a nice sweat going. Spent the rest of the day doing nothing, which is hard for me. Six games here at the ballpark starting tomorrow and that will end the first half. Hard to believe. I had my first bag of potato chips at the park last week. Alex Lavisky is one of our catchers and his mother heard me say on the radio that I had been avoiding the chips due to this weight loss journey I am on. The next day she sent four assorted bags up to the booth. Far be it from me to not appreciate a gift, so I did have the salt and cracked pepper kettle cooked chips. Delicious! The bag said there was no trans fats, so hey, I have that going for me. Moral of the story here is that I need to watch what I say on radio. Maybe I’ll have to mention that I’m a little short financially and see what happens. Worth a try. Seems like the weight is still pretty steady so I need a good push here in the next couple of weeks. I am happy however that I am maintaining the weight without killing myself. This has truly been a lifestyle change for me and one I can certainly live with.

Lighten Up Blogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04740724090759901848noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-832182021440332939.post-21985868469718770522012-06-03T09:14:00.000-07:002012-06-03T09:15:05.341-07:002 Months to go

Had another weigh in and it went the way I figured. It was okay but nothing great. Dropped a couple of pounds which is better that gaining. Down 20 now. To be honest, I did not really push it this month. Had a lot going on and enjoyed myself. I think the key was still eating properly. Not much exercise expect for running around the ballpark. I’ll need to pick that up if I’m going to lose the 13 pound I need to reach my goal over the next two months. I hope it well for everyone else.

Lighten Up Blogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04740724090759901848noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-832182021440332939.post-65658103630525572052012-05-25T10:10:00.001-07:002012-05-25T10:10:28.930-07:00Holiday weekend

Looking forward to three days off. In the middle of 19 straight work days here with the Captains and 31 out of the last 32 days. Gorgeous day here and a nice crowd is expected. Been spending the week putting the finishing touches on the Beer Festival that is here on June 9. No Light beer that day! Will have to be careful. Going to fire up the grill on Sunday and Tuesday as we have day games. Looking forward to that. I appear to be down around 210-211 which would put me down over 20 pounds. Going well. People are noticing since the weather is good enough to not wear a jacket. That feels good. Staying the course and still eating well but still enjoying a beverage or three. Down to 215.2 and my goal was 215. I’ll take it. April is my busiest month of the year between baseball and running the Rumpus Room. Not much time for exercise but still kept up my pretty good eating habits. My business partner starts running the day to day operations at the bar tomorrow so that will free up a lot of time to hit the streets walking and just relaxing in general. I think between this and my diet, I hope to make great strides this month. My goal is to be down to 210 by the next weigh. That would be a high water mark in weight loss for a month. I think I can get it done.

Lighten Up Blogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04740724090759901848noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-832182021440332939.post-6616627748274995852012-04-26T13:37:00.001-07:002012-04-26T13:37:27.657-07:00Weigh in Saturday

Looking forward to the weigh-in on Saturday. Unfortunately I’ll have miss my fellow competitors as I have a game at 1PM. Feeling ok. Still eating well. I should be sprouting feathers with the amount of chicken I eat. My guess is I’ll be down another 3 or four pounds since last weigh in and more than half way to the 33 pound goal with three months to go. I hope the unofficial scale hasn’t let me down. Had salads with grilled chicken for most lunches and the girls in the kitchen next to my radio booth made me two chicken breasts with a bowl of fruit for dinner every night. After the game they put out a meal for the players in the clubhouse. I would usually indulge in that but have not had anything but a handful of fruit on one occasion. Not snacking during the day here has been huge. All three of my belts are down to the last notch unless I’m wearing pants that are a little too big and all the material bunches up causing me to use a larger notch. The last three days the unofficial scale in my office has me at 215, down 18. With a week to go before the weight in, I’d taker that weight next week. Hopefully it will be less. But I’m pretty comfortable in saying that I’m more than half way to the goal with more than half of the contest left. Now if we can get the Captains to win a game, that might be the biggest challenge right now!

Lighten Up Blogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04740724090759901848noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-832182021440332939.post-54332479183169171842012-04-14T11:41:00.001-07:002012-04-14T11:41:03.419-07:00Ballpark Every Day

In the middle of the seven games at the ballpark. Been doing a good job of not snacking during the day. Way too easy to grab a bag of chips as I walk through the concourse. Looks like I’m down a couple more pounds. Need to start back on my grilled chicken wraps here at the park. They are delicious and good for me. Haven’t gotten back in that routine yet. Staying away from the new Moby Dick sandwich. Not ready for a five pound sandwich. We won last night. The Captains 5th straight opening night win. I was pretty good yesterday with my eating habits. Nice salad with a small steak on top for lunch. Had some chicken breasts for dinner but did treat myself to a little mac and cheese. They make the best home made potato chips at this stadium. I had a few just to say I did. So overall pretty good. Two drinks after the game. Here's the Restaurant review for the day that I teased about in my last blog. Went to Cindys's Diner here in downtown Fort Wayne. Great little diner that boasts that they "Serve the Entire World, Fifteen People at a Time". Love that. Had the garbage for breakfast which is basically scrambled eggs with some hash browns, ham, cheese and whaterver else they decide to add to it. One piece of Rye toast to go along with it and coffee. Nice way to start the day and did not feel the need for lunch. I'll grab something helathy here in the press box and probably go out after the game and have a cocktail or two which is in my caloric budget. A little different eating habits than I've had on the road in recent years. I'll check in next week as we prepare for our home opener on Thursday.

Lighten Up Blogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04740724090759901848noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-832182021440332939.post-86709823061442548582012-04-01T09:44:00.001-07:002012-04-01T09:44:22.973-07:00Not Bad
Hit the scales yestereday down 14.8 pounds. I wee bit under my 15 pound goal, but I'll take it. I was a little disappointed but I shouldn't complain since I'm ahead of the pace nedded to drop 33 pounds in six months. Gina and I went for a nice dinner last night at Bistro 70 in Painseville and I had every intention of having whatever I wanted regardless of the caloric content. Splurge for a night before the season starts. Ended up doing a little lamb for an appetizer, a nice dinner salad with dressing on the side and seared Ahi tuna. It was one of the best meals I have had in a long time and was still pretty much in line with my new and improved eating habits. Scale of 1-5, Bistro 70 was a 5. Great service, food and nice atmosphere. Felt like we were in a downtown Cleveland restaurant. So there's my update, no extra charge for the restaurant review and the fantasy draft we had yesterday went well. Time to Play Ball! Next update from Fort Wayne later in the week. There is a a diner there I will tell you about that has a very catchy slogan. That's called a tease and that's where I'll leave you today.
Lighten Up Blogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04740724090759901848noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-832182021440332939.post-59703504678510391212012-03-30T18:01:00.001-07:002012-03-30T18:01:09.780-07:00We Interrupt This Family for the Baseball Season
Tomorrow is the big day. Fantasy baseball draft day....I mean weigh in day. I hope to be down 15 lbs. We'll see how that goes. Should be right there based on the way the scale at the house has been acting. It is fantasy baseball draft day also. It's either 18 or 19 years we've been doing this, long before it was fashionable. Always look forward to this day. Usually eating food that is not good for you and beer way too early. Not tomorrow. I plan to stay on the straight and narrow then head to the weigh in. If all goes well my wife Gina and I will have a nice dinner tomorrow as it's the last supper. The last supper before I go head first into the baseball season. The team comes on Sunday and that signals the end of a some what normal home life. We have a sign in our family room that reads " We Interrupt This Family For The Baseball Season". That starts Sunday but hopefully I'll be thinner when this season starts.
Lighten Up Blogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04740724090759901848noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-832182021440332939.post-30798025307625981992012-03-26T05:33:00.001-07:002012-03-26T05:33:56.461-07:00Great Weekend

Has a terrific weekend beginning with our tickets going on sale on Saturday followed by the Kid’s Show at the Mall. It was great to see so many of our Captains family coming to get their tickets. The weather was great so they just hung out in the stadium catching up. We must have had eight dozen donuts which I stayed away from. The mall was packed for the Kid’s Show and got to see many others friends there. Sunday after I went to the bar to get that ready for the day, I went home took it easy for a while. The old me probably would have been content to just stay there the rest of the day but I got motivated and went for a three mile walk. We fired up the Weber grill up and cooked some chicken and vegetables and it was fantastic. Decided to cut the grass for the first time early in the evening and got that wrapped up as the sun was setting. Good day with a lot of activity. Tipped the scales at 216 today so down 17 unofficially. Can’t wait for the weigh in on Saturday.

Lighten Up Blogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04740724090759901848noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-832182021440332939.post-91989935541472159632012-03-23T06:50:00.001-07:002012-03-23T06:50:57.306-07:00Rolling Along

Busy day planned for tomorrow which will once again prevent me from doing any meaningful exercise but should also keep me from straying from my eating regiment. Our tickets go on sale tomorrow and it’s always fun to see our fans back at the park. After that I head to the mall to man our table at the kids show. Stop by and say hi if you can. Feeling really good right now and feel skinnier! May be moving down another notch on the belt this week. Looking forward to taking a nice long walk on Sunday and getting more yard work done. The next weigh in is next Saturday and I hope to be close to halfway to my goal weight.

Lighten Up Blogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04740724090759901848noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-832182021440332939.post-37959586843607551112012-03-20T13:01:00.001-07:002012-03-20T13:01:17.548-07:00Feels Like Baseball Season

How about this weather. Feels like baseball season..wait it is only a couple weeks until Opening Day which means my schedule is going like crazy. Lunches and dinners associated with the team are picking up. Happy to report that I am staying on track with my good eating habits. Still down around 13 pounds or so. Kind of leveling off right now but haven’t done much exercise. My wife Gina has been great at making sure we have healthy food in the fridge. That was until the four boxes of Girl Scout Cookies arrived yesterday. I did not eat my usually allotment of Tagalongs like I usually do. Grabbed an apple instead. Feeling a little run down due to my schedule but not bad. This is a tough time of the year but I think I have the plan and desire in place to continue to do this the right way.

Lighten Up Blogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04740724090759901848noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-832182021440332939.post-11787324759114017972012-03-14T13:07:00.000-07:002012-03-14T13:08:01.660-07:00Moving right along

Just spent the last five day in Arizona at Indians Spring Training camp which means ballpark food and dinners with beverages. Happy to report the unofficial scale had me down 13 pounds. So I’m more than 1/3 of the way to the 33 pound goal. Going to go walking as many nights as possible to take advantage of the great weather. Walked every day but one in AZ and really watched what I was eating. Getting into a nice healthy routine eating wise. We’re about three weeks away from the team arriving so the pace picks up here even more. Crucial that I stick to the eating habits I’ve gotten into. Feel good, down a belt size..moving right along.

Lighten Up Blogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04740724090759901848noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-832182021440332939.post-76090058782403187552012-03-04T13:44:00.001-08:002012-03-04T13:44:28.376-08:00Go West Young Man

Another busy week. Not much exercise but made sure I stuck to the good eating habits. I leave for Arizona for five days on Thursday and I am usually pretty good about doing some walking when I get out there. I always look forward to heading out to spring training. I'll get to see our coaching staff and check in with our former players. It's always a good time. My daughter is at Arizona State right now so I'll get to see her for the first time since Christmas.

We hosted three of the families from the Chardon tragedy at the ballpark on Thursday. They had asked about putting on a pess conference and the folks at Monreal Funeral Home put them in touch with me to get it together. What an amazing and classy group of people going through something no one should ever have to. We all met an hour before the press conference to go over our plan. Near the end of out meeting, I was telling stories about my first job in radio with the legendary Pete Franklin. Many of them knew of him and were fans of his. We were able to share a couple of laughs with some of my stories and them recalling funny things they remembered from the show. It did not seem like much at the time but as I was driving home that night I thought that at least for that ten minute period of time some of them might have had a brief escape from what they were going through. I'll never forget that day. It was an honor to have been asked to help out. I didn't know what to say them when we met to make them feel better and I still don't now.

Lighten Up Blogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04740724090759901848noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-832182021440332939.post-5556425161526968202012-02-27T11:09:00.001-08:002012-02-27T11:09:56.551-08:00Not Bad

Had our first weigh in on Saturday and down about 8.5 pounds. I’ll take it after the week I had. Looking forward to getting down double digits. I am curious to see how we did as a group. I had to run in and out of the weigh in so I didn’t get to see how others did. Hopefully we’re all starting to see results. Still doing pretty good on the foods I’m eating which I think has made the biggest difference since the exercise has not been there lately.

Lighten Up Blogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04740724090759901848noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-832182021440332939.post-4500799608946949912012-02-24T08:01:00.001-08:002012-02-24T08:01:59.998-08:00Busy Week

I have had something to do every night this week and it all involved eating and drinking. Staying the course on the calorie count and did not go over except for one day and it was 100 calories over. Looking forward to the weigh in tomorrow. Seems like I’m holding steady on my scale at home but we’ll see what the official one says.

Busy weekend as well coming up. I hope to meet some of my fellow contestants tomorrow, but my stop will be brief. I will be getting the bar ready early in the morning then off to the mall to man the Captains table at the Shop Lake County show. Heading to the weigh in and then calling two basketball games at Lake Erie College. From there back to the bar then downtown to see a concert with my wife Gina and 14 of our closest friends. You would think with a schedule like that I’d have the weight just falling off of me as this is a very typical day not so much in the things I’m doing but the pace I usually have to keep. Hopefully Sunday I’ll be able to get back out and take a nice walk. Heading to Spring Training in Arizona in two weeks and hope to be down a few more pounds by then.

Lighten Up Blogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04740724090759901848noreply@blogger.com1
